A Positive Transition: It’s the little things

Transition by Maria L. Berg 2023

Today’s Poetics prompt at dVerse Poets Pub is to write a poem about transition.

A Subtle Key Change from Minor to Major

though days are stolen by ants
the morning light is enchanting through the sprinklers
and chickens ate my barely-growing garden
edible wild mushrooms appeared in the dying yard
everything takes longer than I want it to
and the days go whooshing by before they’ve begun
but somehow the lake water is more refreshing
and clouds, when they come, are welcome
people seem more friendly and inviting
and appreciation abounds

as if I too burst from a cocoon
though I never felt confined
in my chrysalis

  1. I like the contrasts you give us here. So much depends on perspective and there is always sunshine somewhere….even “enchanting through the sprinklers”. The last stanza is beautiful.

  2. I read your title, Maria, and Ella Fitzgerald’s voice floated into my head. I love your poem, even the ants stealing days! I get that feeling of everything taking longer than you want it to while ‘days go whooshing by before they’ve begun’; sometimes it gives me vertigo! The final stanza is oh too familiar.
