a modern sorcery
you’re a teat from which they suckle
or a neck into which they sink their fangs
they leech money if not blood from your account
are meant to help but mostly help themselves
they’d be shocked to hear themselves called
blood-suckers who feed on lives gone wrong
if you’re sane you know you don’t need them
yet half sane, the wind’s up, you’re flailing about
there they are at the ready to pick your mind
name you, client, tell you what to do and why
when all you wanted was someone to listen
and be kind, and you got a vampire instead
