Oct. 27 Prompts: Deep in the Forest

Forest for the Trees: It’s easy to get caught up in details and lose the big picture, or be so focused on the big picture that the details get lost. Think about the opening of a film: the camera flying over a big city, then zooming into a location then to a character, then perhaps to an object, or detail. For today’s poem you have two options, either start with a very broad view and zoom in through the poem to very specific details, OR start with very specific details and zoom out to a very broad view.

This poem might be fun as an Etheree.

Today’s image prompt, “The Stairs” by tohdraws depicts something I would never want to come across in a stairwell.

Please link to your creations in the comments. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

    Expansion & Contraction

    Meditating, the mind a room
    big, spacious, nothing in it
    high, wide, deep, dark
    without walls, expansive

    a sound, noted, a bird
    another sound, noted, a car
    the mind continues knowing
    itself, a cavern, a void
    calm, nothing, endless
    big mind, that’s what it’s
    called, elation, aware of pleasure,
    sensation noted, achievement,
    concept, noted, mind less still

    another sound, noted, wind
    type of wind, noted, blustery
    rain falling, air cooling
    sensation, noted, aversion
to cold, was ill in September
could not shake it dry cough
    heaving, memory, noted
    of doing battle, and fear
    such fear of ageing,
    the body struggling, weaker
    now that it’s older, lightning,
    rain lashing, windows rattling
    body rock solid, still
    mind moving, big mind lost
    sadness, now, thunder too
an argument, you are so dishonest
    memory screaming, like the wind,
and you are such a cow
    tears and rain, then, now
    all mixed in together
    messy, confusion, noted
    mind contracted, aware
    bell sounds, meditation done.
