#FD2017 Final Days Of 2017 Day 15: Christmas Bird of Peace

clip-on bird ornament

This little bird is holds onto the tree with a little squeeze clip. I used to love to un-clip him and pretend he was flying around the tree.

#vss very short story

The colorful bird of Christmas pulled a frozen branch from the ice near the North Pole. As he flew it around the world as a symbol of peace, tiny ancient parasites wriggled to life and fell to earth. The critters quickly multiplied and took over the minds of the humans. The parasites were so happy in their new homes, it caused the humans to love life and each other, and true peace was known by all.

Today’s Poetry Prompt and Poem

Today’s prompt is to write about “empty spaces.”

Empty

A void, dark and vast
Eternal, infinite vacancy

A vacuum, devoid of air
Absolute nothingness

An empty space

Editing Focus

Let’s finish out this week’s focus on the big picture by taking another look at theme or the controlling idea as it is called in The Story Grid: What Good Editors Know by Shawn Coyne.
For today’s editing challenge, list as many themes as you can identify for your story. Here’s my list for Throwing Stones:

  1. A warped perspective can be manipulated.
  2. The wealthy prey on the disenfranchised.
  3. Ideologies throughout history have used stones as weapons against the mighty.
  4. Justice/Vengeance
  5. Once you have lost everything, no one can take anything from you.
  6. The greedy will do anything to have more.
  7. The morally corrupt see nothing wrong with corrupting others.
  8. A warped perspective, passionately believed, can warp the view of others.
  9. A strong leader may lead his followers over a cliff.
  10. Desperate men will commit unimaginable horrors.
  11. People are desperate for what they cannot have.
  12. A person without family will find a way to form one.
  13. What some people consider service others consider trespass.
  14. Rioters don’t want their fires put out.
  15. Dualities of human nature: Stone and fire – strength and light and warmth, buy also destruction.
